Chapter 7

Lily

This little talent’s going to come in handy if I’m to spend any more time with Devion around humans. I fold my arms over my chest and my wings twitch with anger as I turn to look at the man who reacted with fury and attacked an innocent woman. He’s staring at me so incredulously that I almost laugh out loud and forget how irritated I am.

“What was that?” he asks, holding his arm and rotating his shoulder as he tries to work out the pain of being stabbed.

If you ask me, he deserved to be stabbed.

I raise a brow and tilt my chin up to him. “Humans listen to me. Don’t know why, don’t care to know. What I care to know is how you can jump out of a helicopter and put your mouth on another woman right in front of me?”

I’m jealous, raging jealous, even if I have no reason to be.

“That’s your concern? Not who she was or why she was here or what she may have seen? You’re concerned that I touched her?”

“You were just inside me, Devion! Inside my body! Then you’re sucking on some stranger's neck? Come on!” I turn my back to him, purposely smacking his shoulder with my wings, and storm away. Throwing the door to the building open, I walk inside like I have any idea where I’m going at all and shout over my shoulder, “she was probably here to tell us where in this enormous rectangle building the apartment is even located!”

“Or maybe she could have been an assassin here to kill us!” he shouts back at me as he follows me inside.

He’s bubbling over with anger, looking like a monster who could tear me limb from limb, but I’m too mad right now to care. How dare he touch her! Put his body on hers! If he was hungry he could have had me, I was already in his arms after all. Assassin? Ha!

“An assassin? Are you serious? This isn’t a fictional fairy tale, Devion, this is real life!”

“Corbett just married an assassin, so it’s not all that crazy, Lilith!”

I turn on him so fast he has to step back quickly to avoid the spikes on my wings slicing him open.

“Why don’t you ever call me Lily? I told you I prefer to be called Lily, but you constantly use my full name! Are you really so old and antiquated that you can’t shorten my name like I ask? Or is your mouth too full of fangs, like some sort of animal, so you can’t comprehend any other verbiage?”

Holy moly Devion is one huge guy…

I stare up at the furious man looming over me and can't help but to swallow nervously. He’s surrounded by shadows, his gray eyes dark with fury he isn’t even trying to hide. The stark white halls around us seem to go dim, the fluorescent lighting unable to battle the rage of Devion Cadell having a tantrum.
